Yonge North Subway Extension

The Yonge North Subway Extension (YNSE) will extend the TTC’s Line 1 subway service approximately 8 kilometres from the existing terminus at Finch Station into the City of Richmond Hill. This is a cross-jurisdictional project spanning the City of Toronto and York Region, including sections within the cities of Markham, Vaughan and Richmond Hill. It will include an approximately 6.3-kilometre underground tunnel segment. Once complete, the YNSE will connect with local and GO transit services.

The Yonge North Subway Extension is one of the priority transit projects announced by the Province in 2019 in the New Subway Transit Plan for the Greater Toronto Area. The other three projects in the plan include the Scarborough Subway Extension, the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension and the Ontario Line.

The Yonge North Subway Extension is to be delivered in separate procurement contracts:

  1. An advance tunnel between Finch Station and Richmond Hill.
  2. A contract to construct the stations and other facilities, fit out the tunnel and install and commission the systems (Stations, Rail and Systems).
